On the 21 September 2025, the Kampung Air Gotong-Royong Program in Semporna was successfully held with the primary aim of raising community awareness about the importance of environmental conservation, particularly in coastal areas while fostering a collective sense of responsibility for maintaining cleanliness. This program was conducted in collaboration with the Sabah Environmental Protection Organization, which also contributed their efforts to the clean-up activities.

The program featured various clean-up activities, including the collection of plastic waste, bottles, discarded fishing nets, and floating debris that pose a risk of polluting the sea and threatening marine biodiversity. More than 100 local residents, especially youth, actively participated in the programme, demonstrating the community’s strong commitment to protecting the environment. As a result, over 20 tonnes of waste were successfully collected on that day.
In addition to clean-up efforts, public awareness and educational sessions were conducted to inform the community about the negative impacts of pollution on human health, fishermen’s livelihood’s, and the sustainability of marine resources. Participants were also introduced to more effective and eco-friendly waste management practices. This initiative is expected to contribute towards reducing plastic pollution, protecting marine ecosystem and creating a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment for future generations.
